PICE gives P1.7 million aid to Marawi IDPs
The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc. (PICE) has extended P1.5 million cash assistance to support government in taking care of internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the raging Marawi City armed conflict.
This is in response to the call of President Duterte to rebuild Marawi after six weeks of intense gunfight and air strikes against the invasion that already affected hundreds of thousands of IDs, PICE said through its national president, DPWH Undersecretary Maria Catalina E. Cabral.
Cabral said that the donation is part of the members’ collective commitment to the PICE’s vision and mission that is above all social responsibility and to be a key player and a dynamic force in nation building.
To likewise respond to the call of service, the PICE Davao City Chapter on its part acted with promptness of adding P200 thousand more to the fund for assistance to IDPs of Marawi.
The two checks totaling P1.7 million is personally handed to Ms. Mercedita P. Jabagat, Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development XI in Davao City by the members of the PICE National Board from Mindanao led by its 2nd National Vice President Engr. Erdsan Rene S. Suero, National Auditor Engr. Angel T. Torrejon, and PICE Davao City Chapter President Engr. Cary H. Beatisula.
Director Jabagat said that she is not only delighted to note that professional groups like the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers will get down to her office to be among the firsts to offer help for the victims of Marawi siege but she also felt elated to take a more active role in delivering the needed services to the people of Marawi.
