Aniwaa, a company that helps industry users research, evaluate and purchase additive manufacturing equipment, recently launched an online 3D printer comparison platform. The company provides online buying guides for various equipment, such as augmented reality devices, laser cutters, drones, home appliances and even underwater sea scooters. However, the core of its product research is 3D printers and 3D scanners.

“3D printers are a fast-growing category. We’re seeing many professional applications reaching maturity and a strong untapped potential overall,” said Pierre-Antoine Arrighi, Aniwaa co-founder. “New hardware is being released frequently, which is creating a very fragmented market space and making it difficult for potential buyers to make an informed choice. That’s why we’re constantly improving our tools to help our users find the best AM [additive manufacturing] hardware for their needs and budget.”

Aniwaa’s new tool is more than a buying guide. The platform connects potential buyers with sellers via an online quote request form in which consumers can select a product they are interested in and get more information, including a price quote, directly from the manufacturer or retailer. Users of the platform can filter searches by criteria, such as price, build volume, temperatures, materials used and brand.

The new platform offers a clearinghouse of product information, comparison tools, and a direct link between potential buyers and sellers. Aniwaa reportedly has more than 2,100 products that users can filter based on their needs and specifications. Prospective buyers can also view multiple products side by side to get a comprehensive overview.

Aniwaa recommends that professional consumers take some steps when shopping for a 3D printer or scanner. First, research and compare products on the company’s online platform. Once a product is selected, request a quote or ask for advice. The request will be reviewed by an Aniwaa representative. Finally, the supplier will send a quote for the product in question.

Aniwaa is not alone in seeking to facilitate AM device transactions beyond buying guide blog posts. With the COVID-19 pandemic’s halting of industry trade shows, as well as limiting face-to-face business interactions, other companies are trying to fill in the gap virtually. One such company, 3D Evaluate, allows users to order free 3D-printed sample kits associated with products of interest. Once the kits are examined, buyers can contact suppliers directly for estimates.
